About Grass Masters
Grass Masters started in 2009 when owners Brian Ernst and Ryan Nelson decided to start a comprehensive lawn care business closer to friends and family in Algona Iowa. Drawing from their experience working in various golf courses and lawn and landscaping companies, they soon set up shop in Algona and began establishing a loyal client base. As the business grew, a more permanent address with ample storage was required, and
Grass Masters moved to a location later in 2009 near the Algona High School. Clientele was increased during the winter of 2011 when Ernst and Nelson approached and ultimately acquired Kurt's Lawn Care, which Kurt King of Algona had owned. King has continued to work for Grass Masters in a limited capacity. With business demand increasing, Duren Watts has added as a full-time employee in the spring of 2011 as Tree Dept. Manager. Watts had been overseeing an area business's greenhouse and garden center until then.
In 2012, another full-time employee, Brian Elbert joined The Grass Masters crew; Also experienced in golf course and lawn and landscape, Elbert had worked with both Ernst and Nelson previously.
With each year the number of people contracting Grass Masters services continued to increase, and the services offered reflected that. Hydroseeding became a service standard in 2012, and tree-related services showed a marked increase.

It was soon apparent that another move would be necessary, as the growing enterprise required ample space for vehicles and storage. In late 2012, Grass Masters purchased a site at 620 Norwood Drive in Algona that offered a perfect solution. After extensive remodeling during the winter of 2012-13, the building was converted into the current Grass Masters headquarters.

The summer of 2013 saw the business' initial foray into irrigation; aligning themselves with Hunter irrigation systems, Grass Masters offers both new installations, as well as maintenance and upkeep on previously installed systems.
